This is the night Spanish people everywhere follow the tradition of eating doce uvas, 12 grapes, at midnight, one for every chime of the clock. It’s harder than you might think but brings you luck all year round! As Spanish wikipedia explains:
Las doce uvas, o uvas de la suerte, es la tradición consistente en comerse doce uvas, una por cada campanada, a las 12 de la noche del 31 de diciembre (Nochevieja) al 1 de enero, debido a que supuestamente trae buena suerte para el nuevo año.
